Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp Are Down: What is Happening?


You may be finding it difficult this evening to access your awesome social media applications like; Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Not to worry, you are not alone because it is a worldwide issue and Facebook has also made a tweet to apologize to users worldwide as regards the situation of all their social media applications.

WhatsApp happened to be the first to go down three hours ago, initially, it was the web version of WhatsApp that went down, followed by the WhatsApp phone application, and then Instagram and Facebook went down as well. This situation left users worldwide in a state of confusion and for some of us here in Nigeria, we quickly blamed it on the network until we realized that it is not a network problem.

The problem of downtime with these social media platforms is worldwide as there are reports of the same issue in the United Kingdom, United States, Latin America, and Europe as well.

From records, the last time something like this happened was on 19th March, 2021 and as much as we can remember, it took Mark Zuckerberg and his team a couple of hours to return these indispensable applications online.

It's easy to know if your WhatsApp application is down. All you need to do is to try sending messages on the application. When you do, you will discover that even with the heavy presence of network, the messages won't be sent to your recipient, and will stay pending on your WhatsApp message box.

Why did WhatsApp go down without any prior notification to users?

Well, it seems this downtime happened suddenly and took WhatsApp and its app managers and developers by surprise.

What happened to Facebook and Instagram?

Just like WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram are also down. But Facebook particularly has tweeted to appeal to their users to bear with them on the downtime of these giant social media applications. Read the tweet below;

"We're aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products," Facebook tweeted. "We're working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience."
